12th Annual Cruisin' On the River Car Show Saturday May 18, 10AM-4PM on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville
Spectators can enjoy one of the best car shows in the South and music by Gypsy River Band at this free event. Food and drinks are available for purchase, or participate in the silent auction and raffle! Entrants can register the day of at Madisonville Town Hall for $20 beginning at 9am, in many different categories. Come cruise or just watch the Water St. parade beginning on the north side at noon. Judging begins at 1 p.m. and results and awards are presented at 3 p.m. inside town hall. Presented by Madisonville Chamber and benefitting the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum. | Concert at the Historic Dew Drop May 25 featuring Detective Fish and Linnzi Zaorski
Catch the last concert in the Spring series from 6:30 - 9:30 PM featuring Detective Fish and Linnzi Zaorski at the Dew Drop, located in the 400 block of Lamarque St. in Mandeville. Come a little early to get a seat on the benches or bring your lawn chairs to listen from the lawn. Admission $10. The Dew Drop Social and Benevolent Hall opened in 1895 by a group of civic-minded African-American residents as a venue for raising funds for needy individuals in their community. Among the great jazz musicians that performed there were Buddy Petit and Louis Armstrong.
| Jazz 'n the Vines: Spring Outdoor Concert Series Begins April 6 at Pontchartrain Vineyards
Celebrate Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage of food, wine, and music during this popular outdoor concert series in the middle of St. Tammany’s own award-winning Pontchartrain Vineyards. Purchase delicious food from local vendors and PV wines like the 2011 Roux St. Louis or the 2010 Zydeco Rosato. Bring a flashlight, picnic dinner, blanket or chairs, and toast a memorable evening of music among the vines. | 'Restaurateur of the Year' Northshore native John Besh honored
A native of Slidell, on the east side of St. Tammany Parish, chef John Besh has been a familiar face on the Northshore for years. Besh became familiar to a national audience after appearances on NBC’S "Today Show," The Food Network’s "Iron Chef" and "Next Iron Chef" programs and through work as a cultural and culinary ambassador for the state of Louisiana. For his accomplishments, which include operating four noteworthy restaurants in the New Orleans area – including La Provence here on the Northshore – he has been named Restaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant Association.
