Abita Opry, Inc. presents the final concert in its 2018 spring series on Saturday, May 19.
The evening begins with a performance by the 'Porch Players' at 5pm on the front porch (free). Doors open at 5:45pm for the featured performing artists, with performance from 7pm to 9pm. Abita Springs Town Hall provides a concession counter offering gumbo, hot dogs, desserts, soft drinks and water. After the concert, join the evening's performers, along with local musicians, for an Open Jam at the Abita Brew Pub!
Last Chance Bluegrass Band
If you like straight out hard driving energetic Bluegrass, you will like the Last Chance Band. They have been one of our house bands for several years. They provide a great presence on the stage coupling their musical and individual personalities. Bluegrass has always been a mainstay of the opry and these guys do a fine job of continuing that tradition.
Daryl, Daryl, Daryl, and my Other Cousin Daryl
They have been performing locally for some time. This band has been regulars at the Old Time Feed Store music series held at Marsolan’s Feed Store in Covington. They have also performed at other local venues. They present a nice blend of music that can best be described as “Americana,” and we welcome them to the Opry.
Sheryl Cormier and the Cajunettes
This is an all-female Cajun Band from the Lafayette area. That is the area in Louisiana where Cajun music was originated, and the groups that come from that area are the best. The fiddle player featured in this band is Gina Forsyth. Gina has performed with many different groups at the Opry and, besides our house bands, has been here more than any other musician. She is one of the most well-known and competent fiddle players in Louisiana. We are looking forward to hearing this group.
Miss Sophie Lee
Sophie has been a mainstay in the club scene for some time. She performs traditional New Orleans Jazz and can be seen regularly on Frenchmen Street. In conversations with other musicians about her, when informed she will be on our stage, they always respond with, “I love her. She is great!” This will be a fine close out for the spring season of the Abita Springs Opry.
Tickets are $18 for all seats, all ages, and season tickets (three concerts) are $54. Some General Admission tickets will be available at the door but advance purchase is highly recommended, as the Opry has many season ticket holders and seating is limited to 400 for each performance. In case of sell-out, the concert can also be seen on closed circuit TV on the front porch, and some outside seating will be available.
To purchase tickets, call Kathy Armand at Abita Springs Town Hall, (985) 892-0711 or visit the Hall's Utilities Office, 22161 Level Street, open 9am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Tickets are also available by mail; send payment to Abita Opry Inc., P.O. Box 461, Abita Springs LA 70420.
