The Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges presents the Bayou Gardens Camellia Open House on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Tours and admission are free.
Co-hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the event includes local area camellia societies. Enjoy a day full of opportunities to enjoy springtime in St. Tammany Parish at the beautiful Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge in Lacombe.
From 1935 through 1956 the headquarters property was a horticultural attraction called Bayou Gardens. In its heyday, the garden bloomed with over 400 varieties of camellias and azaleas. Celebrate the gardens with garden tours, camellia growing tips and demonstrations, and more. This free open house is a collaborative effort with local camellia clubs. Refreshments provided by Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges Inc. Open house activities from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
