The City of Covington Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs (DPRC) presents the family fun event “FIELD OF SCREAMS,” to be held at the Covington Recreation Complex, 4001 De Porres Road, on Friday and Saturday, October 12 and 13, 2018.
This free public event promises entertaining thrills and chills for children and adults of all ages. The Blue Swamp Creek Nature Trail, a natural Louisiana habitat maintained by Keep Covington Beautiful, will transform into two festive trail options geared to accommodate attendees of all ages. The “Mini Pumpkin Friendly Ghost Trail” will host the youngest visitors, featuring jack-o-lanterns, spiders, scarecrows, and flying ghosts.
Toddlers and children up to 8 years of age will be greeted along the trail by costumed volunteers offering an early “Trick or Treat” opportunity for the young trailblazers. Exiting the trail, parents will delight in a great "photo op" point, while children will find a miniature pumpkin patch with pumpkins ready to be harvested. where they can select one to take home.
For the chill seekers, there's the “Scream Trail." Enter if you dare and beware of the Blue Swamp Creek Rougarou! Eerie stage scenes created and manned by Covington Fire Department and Covington Police Department are certain to startle trail explorers. Keep Covington Beautiful members have readied the Blue Swamp Creek trails for display sites and serve as event volunteers. The Scream Trail is suggested for older children, teens and adults (children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
Actvities kick off with free dance lessons by Jessica Boudreau of Dancescape Studio in Covington. Jessica will teach participants (a.k.a. “zombies”) of all ages (including Baby Boomers!) the popular Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance. A professional face painter will be on site to assist with make-up for all potential zombies.
DPRC is requesting that anyone interested in volunteering contact the Covington Cultural Arts & Events office, (985) 892-1873, firstname.lastname@example.org.
