Dedicated to his wife, the fiery, Spanish-tinged dances of Joaquín Turina’s Danzas fant á sticas herald in this concert’s theme of romance. Internationally acclaimed and prize-winning violinist, Ray Chen then performs Max Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra as a whimsical interlude to the other romance-inspired pieces on the program. The concert ends with Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet, which was composed to accompany a ballet based on the age-old tale of romance and tragedy. Carlos Miguel Prieto conducts.
Program duration is approximately 2 hours including a 20-minute intermission. There will be a pre-concert talk one hour prior to the performance.
