The St. Tammany Art Association presents its annual benefit to support the organization's educational and cultural programming, Seersucker & Sazeracs, on Friday, May 18, 2018, 7 to 10 p.m. at historic Southern Hotel in charming downtown Covington.
This tribute to yesteryear combines two classic icons of southern living – quintessentially cool seersucker and oh-so-refreshing Sazeracs. Guests are invited to don their finest seersucker and spring attire to mix and mingle and to sample delicious spirits offered by the Sazerac Company, born from “America’s First Cocktail.”
The event features lively music and dancing, stellar cuisine from top local restaurants, and a bounty of art. Artists featured at the event, along with other details, will be announced on the organization's website.
Tickets are $75 per person, which includes food, drinks and music. A limited number of tickets are available, while quantities last. This event has sold out each year, so early purchase is encouraged. However, a small number of tickets will be available at the door.
The community- and member-supported arts center in downtown Covington presents the fundraising event in the height of spring, just before its summer art and theater camps for kids; proceeds of the event will support such educational programming.
Since 1958, the St. Tammany Art Association has been at the center of cultural activities in Covington, presenting educational opportunities for children and adults as well as top-tier exhibitions. Today, the nonprofit continues to host 6-7 exhibitions annually in its Miriam Barranger Gallery, and accomplished artists on its teaching roster. It also produces a juried art market six times per year, annual street festivals Spring for Art and Fall for Art, and space for members to sell work in the Dorothy Severson and Trudy Williamson galleries.
Exhibitions featured at the STAA Art House in 2018 include Intersections featuring artists Meredith Pardue and Sarah Wiseman; Il•lus•trate, April 14-May 26, featuring the works of Hannah Gumbo, Chris Hsu, Tran Nguyen, Shiho Pate, Britt Spencer and Lindsay Ryden; the 53rd Annual National Juried Artists’ Exhibition, July 14 – August 18; Fall for Art, October 13, with the featured exhibition of works from the Vaults of New Orleans Museum of Art, October 6 – November 17; and The Works of James Burke, December 8 – January 26, 2019.
