The Old Mandeville Business Association (OMBA) presents the annual Empty Bowl Project, an event benefiting Mandeville's Samaritan Center Food Bank on Sunday, November 11, 2018, 3:00 to 6:00 pm, at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville.
Select a hand-made bowl, sample delicious food from local restaurants, enjoy live music, the ambiance of Old Mandeville's lakefront beauty, and bid on donated items. All funds received by the Samaritan Center are used to feed the people of St. Tammany Parish. Admission is $40 at the door or in advance at the Samaritan Center as well as area businesses to be announced.
The Samaritan Center, located at 402 Girod St. in Old Mandeville, helps local residents in need of food, clothing, shelter and support. Part of a nationwide activity, the Empty Bowl concept of using student-made bowls to raise funds for those in need began in 1990, the idea of John Hartom and Lisa Blackburn, art teachers at a Michigan high school. The idea quickly spread to other schools leading to creation of Michigan-based non-profit The Imagine/RENDER Organization that coordinates Empty Bowl projects nationally including the one in Mandeville.
