The 1st annual St. Tammany REDFISHTIVAL will celebrate all things fishing and fun in St. Tammany Parish.

The event takes place noon-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at The Dock in Slidell, 118 Harbor View Ct.

This event had been scheduled as two big days at the Northshore Harbor Center; however, due to the potential for adverse weather conditions from Tropical Storm Karen in the Gulf of Mexico, events planned have changed.

All events will now be held at The Dock in Slidell, 118 Harbor View Ct. Threat of bad weather from Tropical Storm Karen forced cancellation of Saturday’s activities but all Sunday activities are still on at the new location. And now the festival is FREE for all ages.

Sunday events include live music by Amanda Shaw. The Northshore’s own pop star/fiddler takes the stage from 1:15-2:45 pm. We'll also have Charter captain fishing seminars, children’s activities, food and door prizes.

Fishing aficionados will want to be on hand for the exciting finale of the HT Redfish series, as the championship weigh-in gets under way at 3:00 p.m. The final five teams will be bringing in their day’s catch for the official weigh-in and awards ceremony.

Come out and watch the Saints game with us at The Dock; there will be drink specials and TV viewing available.

The competing anglers begin fishing a couple of days before REDFISHTIVAL, leaving on Thursday and Friday from The Dock in Slidell. The field of 35 teams is narrowed to five by Sunday’s championship finale. Winning teams will share $100,000 in cash and prizes, including a 22-foot Haynie Custom Boat.

The HT Redfish Series attracts some of the nation’s top anglers; this year’s teams include fishermen from Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina vying in a series of tournaments for the right to fish in the finale. Come cheer on local fishing legend Dwayne Eschete and his partner Clark Jordan of Texas; known as Team Majek, the duo won Team of the Year honors in 2011 and 2012 and are in the points lead for the top spot again this Fall.

REDFISHTIVAL is hosted by the St. Tammany Parish Tourist and Convention Commission and is intended to help showcase the great fishing available on the Northshore.

Admission is free and food and drinks will be available for sale. The event promises something for the whole family and helps a good cause: All gate proceeds will go toward funding the GO FISH program providing fishing equipment for underprivileged kids at the reopening of the St. Tammany Fishing Pier in Slidell. The pier was damaged by last year’s hurricane Isaac but will reopen when repairs are complete.
