White Summer Night to Benefit Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Program

The Pontchartrain Yacht Club will be lit up in white to host White Summer Night, an arts fundraiser to benefit Safe Harbor’s Domestic Violence Program.

The public as well as Pontchartrain Yacht Club members are invited.

The event features food by several area restaurants and provide poolside dancing illuminated by white lanterns with music by the Rick Sampson Band.

“White” is the theme for the evening and attendees are encouraged to go with the theme and dress in white attire to complete the atmosphere.

Several St. Tammany artists will be selling their artwork. A portion of their sales will go to Safe Harbor.
the signature painting for this year's theme is an acrylic on canvas painting by Robert Warrens called "Pink Light," depicting egrets reflected pink in a setting sunset motif. Other artists displaying and selling original work include Sandra Blair, Mary Monk, Philip Sage, Barbie Adler, John Goodwyne, Barbara Prosser, Valerie Carpenter, Louis Morales and Sylvia Schmidt along with jewelry designs of Betsy Green and nature photography of Hew Hamilton, Patsy Davenport and Robert Baumgartner.

Authors in attendance will include Randy Fertel, author of The Gorilla Man and The Empress of Steak; Pamela Ewen who wrote The Moon In The Mango Tree and other works; and Bernard Smith who wrote Random Allotment.

Food will be provided by The Lake House, Vianne's Tea House, The Scotts' Coffee & Tapas Bar, The Rusty Pelican, K. Gee's Restaurant, George's Mexican Restaurant, Garcia's Mexican Restaurant, Coffee Rani, the Broken Egg, Saia's Meat Market, The Donut King, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Bosco's Italian, Rip's On The Lake, Bisto Byronz, Chimes, Zea Rotisserie Grill, the Beach House, Fresh Market, Don's Seafood, Whole Foods Market, McClain's Pizzeria and Carmella Italian Restaurant. There will also be beverages available at mini bars set up around the grounds of the yacht club.

Drawings will be held for door prizes donated by area businesses including restaurant gift cards in the Mandeville and Covington area.

Sponsors include Speedway Printing, The Tent Man, RBC Designs, Pineapple Gallery, Blue Bell Creamery and business owners and yacht club members Brian Burke and Bob Rhoden.

Tickets are $25.00 including food and drinks and are available at in advance at Pontchartrain Yacht Club at Jackson Avenue and Lakeshore Drive on the Mandeville lakefront, and at Pineapple Gallery, 829 Asbury Drive in Mandeville. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

Safe Harbor is a non-profit, non-government agency in St. Tammany Parish serving women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. Safe Harbor provides undisclosed lodging and support services ranging from crisis intervention and legal advocacy to play groups and counseling for children. Professional staff is on hand 24 hours a day. Assistance is kept confidential and there is no charge for the help they provide.
