NOLA Brew Bus and Abita Brewery have partnered together to develop a craft beer tour like no other. The 4-hour journey to and from Abita Springs in St. Tammany Parish starts in the French Quarter and takes you across New Orleans to the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the world's longest bridge over open water. During the drive, you will learn about the people and winding waterways that shaped the unique metropolis that is Greater New Orleans. You will hear its longstanding love affair with alcohol, from its seedy beginnings to the birth of the cocktail all the way through Prohibition and the craft beer boom of today.
Upon reaching Mandeville, the first stop is Old Rail Brewing Company for a flight of beer and some munchies (beer flight is included in ticket price, food can be ordered à la carte). This gastropub distinguishes itself from the pack with gourmet takes on classic bar bites (think sweet chile wings and truffle Parmesan french fries) and a roster of beers brewed on-site. The handsome space features rich hues and dark wood, while a picturesque patio provides patrons with an outdoor dining option.
The next stop is one of the largest producing craft beer breweries in America--and the oldest in the south--Abita Brewery in Abita Springs. You will be provided a guided tour of Abita by a local expert. Upon arrival, you will be given four tokens which will allow you (4) four-ounce tastings of your choice. Abita also offers tastings along with the ability to purchase pints, growlers, snacks, and souvenirs. While there, enjoy Abita’s outdoor courtyard, taproom, Instagram printing, and multitude of games.
After spending two hours of fun at two local breweries, you'll head back to the Big Easy to learn more rich history, traveling over swamps and bayous that pirates, traders, and smugglers have used as a back entrance into the city. NOLA BrewBus combines the beauty of NOLA history along with the craft beer boom south Louisiana is currently enjoying.
Tours are every Friday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm, $70/person. This tour requires a minimum of eight people to run. If your tour does not have enough people, you will be contacted and refunded.
