Celebrity chef John Besh, a Northshore native known for fine restaurants, award-winning Louisiana-centric cookbooks and appearances as a judge on “Top Chef,” got his start at La Provence in Lacombe, working for a Frenchman who would be his mentor. Besh now operates the elegant destination restaurant known for its dedication to farm-to-table freshness and flavor, with pigs raised out back and a garden supplying many of the ingredients you’ll enjoy there. Down the road Sal & Judy’s is no less an institution, serving the area’s beloved Creole Italian food to yet another generation of fans. When it’s down-home goodness – plate lunches, fried catfish, chicken fingers, po-boys -- you want, you’ll find that, too.
Lacombe’s small but packs a culinary punch.
