The Atrium Gallery at Christwood hosts Fontainebleau High School's 16th Annual FHS Senior Exhibition, May 13-June 29, 2023, opening with a lively reception on May 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition showcases artworks by 11 Fontainebleau High School graduating seniors. The reception includes refreshments, live music and entertainment, and is free and open to the public.
This year's exhibition showcases works by: Kaiya Blucas, Lily Breaux, Avery De Frank, Mylan Isbell, Brinley Manville, Daniel Medina, Julia Phelan, Hayden Stipe, Julia Sutton, Paige Thiriot and Alivia Walder. Senior art teachers are Jessica Danby, Sara Shearman and Ralph Townsend.
Known for its high quality, comprehensive program, the Mandeville school's art department provides graduating seniors with the experience of being a professional artist by displaying their work in a professional art venue. The annual exhibition is popular among the local art community, as past exhibitions have featured burgeoning artists who have gone on to accomplished careers in the visual arts. Some works will be for sale, but be sure to arrive early as sales are typically swift.
This year's show is highly anticipated, as FHS Art was recently recognized by the LSU School of Art in its annual statewide juried exhibition. The Fontainebleau High School Art Department received an award for its breadth of work, and nine pieces by FHS Art students were selected from among 450 entries by all public, private, and home-schooled high school students (grades 9 through 12) who reside in Louisiana. Seniors Avery DeFrank, Mylan Isbell and Brinley Manville were among the elite group of 50 young artists selected for the competition.
DeFrank, also a Talented Theater student at FHS, will be doing a live painting performance at the May 13 event while Dylan Chehebar, a FHS Talented Music senior, performs Schuman's Three Romances on saxophone.
The 16th Annual FHS Senior Exhibition continues through June 29, 2023. The Atrium Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Learn more about this year's graduating class and their projects on Fontainebleau Senior Show's Instagram page.
