The Saint Joseph Abbey and Abbey Art Works invite painters of any medium to its next Artist Retreat for several days of peaceful, quiet painting on the grounds of the Abbey. The retreat takes place Monday, August 23 through Friday, August 27, 2021.
The retreat includes four nights' accommodations in the beautiful, newly renovated Retreat Center just steps from the Studio building. Registration includes private room & bath plus meals in the Abbey's Retreat Center. Air-conditioned space will be available in the Abbey Art Works studio, and artists will be free to work outdoors, weather permitting, and enjoy meeting and sharing art and ideas with other artists.
This retreat is for independent artistic development and is not recommended for beginner artists. No formal painting instruction will be given. Artists will set up their own ‘studio space’ in the Retreat Center and begin independent work at their own pace. Easels and tables are provided; however, artists bring their own painting supplies. The retreat is limited to 20 artists.
Artist-in-Residence for this event, Billie Bourgeois, will be available in the studio 9-11:30 each morning, and 2-4:30 each afternoon to help, critique, make suggestions and encourage anyone who wishes it.
Billie has taught drawing and painting, realism and abstraction for over 30 years. She is presently on the faculty at Abbey Art Works and teaches “Painting from the Soul: Intuitive Abstract Painting” once a week throughout the year and in 3-day workshops regionally. Her work is represented by galleries in Atlanta, Dallas, Jackson, MS, Alexandria, VA and Baton Rouge, LA. She is a 21-year member of the Mississippi Art Colony and of 35 Women Abstract Expressionists (national group).
