The 26th Annual Youth Fishing Event at Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019. Kids from ages 4 to 12 learn the skills and fun of fishing. Pre-registration is required.
The rodeo is sponsored by the Southeast Louisiana Wildlife Refuges in collaboration with Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges Inc., and is supported by many community partners. It is held at the Pearl River Turnaround Fishing Pond at Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge.
Families welcome but only pre-registered children are allowed to fish. Phone reservations are not taken. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and open until full.
Entry forms at: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/Bogue_Chitto/.
The event is limited to 150 kids on a first-come, first-served basis and there is a $20 registration fee. Fishing is 7:30 - 11 AM. Participants in the fishing event receive a T-shirt, rod-and-reel, bait, and lunch. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and lawn chairs recommended. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Many local and national sponsors contribute supplies, services and cash toward making this an exciting day for kids.
The event will be held at the Pearl River Turnaround at the Bogue Chitto NWR. To get there, take I-59 to the Pearl River Turnaround Exit 11, and turn right. Backtrack on the frontage road about a mile, and the entrance is on the left.
