It's a day full of family fun at BooFest 2019, with six "Trick-or-Treat Neighborhoods" and tons of fall-themed activities at the 10th annual event, taking place on Saturday, October 26 on the grounds of the Lakeview Regional Medical Center. One-hundred percent of proceeds go to ACCESS (Adapting and Changing Children’s Environments with Successful Solutions).

The day is packed with fun for the whole family, including pumpkin decorating at the pumpkin patch, arts and crafts area, Trick-or-Treating, all-abilities games, photo booth, music, dancing and more. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume and take part in the annual BooFest Costume Contest for the title of “Scariest,” “Most Original” and “Kids Choice” costume. Local businesses and members of the community may get involved in BooFest by sponsoring and decorating a trick-or-treat house or castle.

Gates open at 9:00 am for special needs families and to general public 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Admission is $2 per person or for Unlimited Chili, $5.

The Northshore Area Board of Realtors (NABOR) will hold its 12th Annual Chili Challenge during Boo Fest. NABOR is the non-profit professional association of agents, brokers and affiliate members in St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. The cook-off is open to all interested in a fun afternoon demonstrating their culinary talents, while supporting programs that benefit children with disabilities and their families. In addition to bragging rights, 1st and 2nd place awards will be given to Chili Cook-Off Challenge winners, along with awards for Best Booth Showmanship.

This "spook-tacular" event aims to have children of all abilities -- disabled and able-bodied alike -- trick-or-treat alongside one another. Since its inception, funds raised from the event have allowed ACCESS to provide grants totaling nearly $250,000 to families of children with disabilities for items not covered by insurance and/or Medicaid, such as wheelchairs, adaptive car seats, bicycles and tricycles, car/home/van modifications and other adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
