The St. Tammany Town and Country Garden Club presents their 2nd annual Garden to Table Symposium and “Taste of” Luncheon on Saturday, April 6, 2019, 10 a.m. to 3 pm, at First United Methodist Church in Covington.
The program highlights the importance of sharing and passing on traditions through our food and gardens while providing a forum to showcase how they contribute to the development of a region's history and culture.
This year’s speakers will be:
- Kevin Belton, Louisiana cookbook author and celebrity TV chef
- Trish Aleshire, manager of Rosedown Plantation who will speak about the Civil War garden of Martha Turnbull, mistress of the plantation, who fed both soldiers and slaves from the plantation garden’s bounty
- Dr. Charles Allen, botanist, author and foremost authority on wild edible plants
- The Junior League of Covington’s Roux To Doux cookbook committee.
Along with foods prepared by the Garden Club members for the “Taste of” luncheon, Chef Belton and the Junior League will share foods prepared from their cookbooks and Dr. Allen will provide a “hands on” sampling of the Gulf Coast’s wild edible plants.
