30 by Ninety Theatre in Mandeville presents Inherit the Wind, the story of one of the greatest courtroom dramas of twentieth century America. Written nearly thirty years after the actual Scopes Monkey Trial, an American legal case in July 1925 in which a substitute high school teacher, John T. Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which had made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school, the play provides a vehicle for demonstrating the conflicts between fundamentalism on one hand and the freedom of thought on the other. The playwrights used the trial as a means to present these universal and timeless concepts which are as pertinent now as they were then, as there continue to be conflicts in societies that value the freedom of ideas, religion, science and politics. Directed by Adolfo Rodriguez.
