The Krewe of Chahta parade in Lacombe with the theme "Spirit of the Wind." The parade features floats, cars, marching units and horse groups. It begins at the Morocco Room and follows US 190 north to 17th Street, Fish Hatchery Rd., and ends at Lacombe Nursing Home.
The Krewe of Chahta began as an idea among a few friends gathered in 1989 at a local watering hole called The Morocco Room, according to the organization's history. The first parade was held that same year, and the krewe has presented an annual Carnival ball since 1996, except 2006.
The members chose the name Krewe of Chahta in remembrance of Chahta-Ima High School, which is itself named for St. Tammany's founding father, Fr. Adrien Rouquette.
