The premier Mardi Gras walking parade featuring man's best friends and their families puts some bark into the Mardi Gras scene! The 29th annual parade will roll and stroll through historic downtown Covington on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. The parade theme will be announced as the event nears.
The parade will start at the corner of Columbia and Kirkland Streets (near Covington Police Department) on a half mile route to the Covington Trailhead for the Post-Parade Extravaganza with music, food trucks and sponsor fun for kids and K9s.
All are invited to participate in the parade. A $25 registration fee is required (per dog), which must be in costume, and up to six humans can accompany each four-legged friend. Human escorts are encouraged to dress to suit the theme, too. Registration will open on the day of the event at 12:30 p.m. Skip the line and register up to eight dogs in advance on https://mardipaws.com. You can also make a donation.
Since 1994, Louisiana’s famed Mardi Paws™ Parade has come at the tail end of Carnival season, always rolling on the Sunday AFTER Fat Tuesday. The Super Krewe for K9s features over 400 canines and their companions in costumes, tens of thousands of smiling spectators throughout Historic Downtown Covington and is truly a paw-rade with a purpose. Since its inception, the Mystic Krewe of Mardi Paws parade has been organized by a handful of volunteers wanting to make a difference in their community. Parade beneficiaries have included the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, Scott's Wish, St. Tammany Spay & Neuter, and the Miracle League.
