Playmakers, Inc. Community Theater presents "Southern Comforts," a story of an older couple who find love late in life, by Kathleen Clark, onstage October 1-16, 2022.
The poignant comedy is a tour-de-force journey of a widow and a widower who meet late in life and find a way into each other’s hearts. Originally performed by husband-and-wife Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook, it’s the story of Gus, played by Jimmy Bassford, a taciturn Yankee, and Amanda, played by Arden Allen Dufilho, a vivacious grandmother from Tennessee, who find what they least expected at this point in their lives – a second chance at love. Directed by Edward Dufilho, their funny, awkward romance is filled with sweet surprise and unexpected tribulation.
Southern Comforts opens Saturday, Oct. 1 with a special opening night featuring hors d’oeuvres and a signature cocktail from Southern Hotel. The show runs through Oct. 16. Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at https://bontempstix.com/organizations/playmakers-theater-of-covington.
