The center of Abita Springs is its trailhead at Abita Springs Park, a stop on the Tammany Trace hiking/biking/riding trail. The plaza features the historic, renovated, two-story 1884 Pavilion, under which rests Princess Abita, a statue commemorating the "healing waters" that the town is known for. The plaza is also the new home of the historic bachelor quarters of the 19th-century Longbranch Hotel, moved to the trailhead from its former location in nearby woods, where today it houses the Abita Springs Trailhead Museum. The museum chronicles Abita Springs’ history as a resort town, renowned for its clear, artesian springs with their well-promoted "healing" qualities. It hosts historic exhibits and well-informed docents offer information about the area. Attached to the museum is an outdoor performance stage, where the town hosts special events and festivals, including the popular Abita Springs Busker Festival, Abita Springs Water Festival, Earth Fest, and more. With a playground and splash pad nearby, the kids will have plenty to do. On Sunday afternoons, the park is also home to the Abita Springs Art & Farmers Market, selling local produce, prepared foods, and arts and crafts. Live music performed every week.
