Chef Lauren Smith brings Southern comfort food to the little red-roofed cottage at 544 Girod Street in Old Mandeville for indoor and outdoor dining just five blocks from Mandeville's lakefront.
Chef Lauren’s culinary career began at an early age, inspired by two generations of Louisiana farmers, butchers and home cooks. This family instilled a precious appreciation for fresh, local and homegrown ingredients prepared with care. A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, she has cooked at the world famous Commander’s Palace, Ralph’s on the Park and Costera.
On the menu is a hearty mix of Louisiana favorites in small or large plates, as well as handcrafted cocktails and decadent desserts like the strawberry sweet biscuit. Favorite menu items include fried chicken, seared Gulf fish, crispy duck confit, Cajun turkey poboy, the "Remy" pastrami sandwich, plantain chips & dip, deviled eggs, glazed pork belly, charred cabbage Caesar salad with crispy chicken or Gulf shrimp, sausage biscuit with gravy, and a variety of delicious sides, like the pickled okra potato salad (also served ice cold atop steaming gumbo), spicy pork boudin, garlic confit grits, and more.
A family-friendly place, a kids' menu is also offered, as well as a play area next to the patio's picnic tables. Daily lunch specials are offered (follow them on Instagram at @eat_hambone for updates).
