The giant oaks along Mandeville's lakefront are iconic for this old and lovely town on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Progressive yet protective of its heritage and natural beauty, Mandeville offers visitors shopping, memorable restaurants, attractions and places to explore the outdoors, like Northlake Nature Center and Fontainebleau State Park. The paved path at the lakefront is a popular spot for locals to walk their dogs, jog and stroll. The path along Lakeshore Drive connects two playgrounds on both the west and east side. Along the path, arbors, swings and benches can be found to rest a while, and many beautiful historic homes and several restaurants front the lake. Adjacent to the Tammany Trace in Old Mandeville is the town's Trailhead, featuring an interactive fountain with splash pad open March to October, a lookout tower, and amphitheater with seasonal community events, including free concerts in spring and fall. The Cultural Interpretive Center is a hands-on museum of Mandeville history including short films, touch screens and dioramas. The Mandeville Trailhead Community Market and Lafitte Street Market are held 9am-1pm Saturdays. Free entertainment and educational demonstrations, handmade crafts and prepared foods, and special events.
