Abita Mystery House

THINGS TO DO, ABITA SPRINGS

Once a popular retreat, this historic little town is still a great place to breathe and relax. And play. Quirky Abita is home to the Abita Mystery House, the Abita Opry and Abita Brew Pub, the original home of Abita Beer. At the center of town, the Trailhead Museum pays homage to the area’s past as a resort where visitors stayed in large hotels and partook of the area's believed-to-be therapeutic spring waters. The museum, housed in the 19th-century gentlemen's quarters of one of those hotels, anchors a plaza where the town's Sunday farmers market is held. Adjacent to the Tammany Trace hike and bike path, which ribbons through the little town, the plaza also serves as event venue for free concerts and gatherings like the Water Festival and the Busker Festival. There's always something fun and funny happening in Abita, also home to the Whole Town Garage Sale, the Bicycle Festival, and the Krewe of Push Mow Mardi Gras parade.
