You can explore that history at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum and learn about efforts to preserve the 19th -century Tchefuncte River Lighthouse. History’s also on display at the Otis Hous Museum at nearby Fairview-Riverside State Park. The park offers trails, camping, and fishing. You can reserve a pontoon boat tour that departs from the State Park boat launch. Thousands turn out each fall for the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival which draws vintage hand-built watercraft from across the Gulf South. But any time is a good time to enjoy a great meal from one of the restaurants overlooking the Tchefuncte’s banks.
