THINGS TO DO, MADISONVILLE

Hugging the banks of the wide Tchefuncte River, Madisonville is rich in maritime history. You can explore that history at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum and learn about efforts to preserve the 19th -century Tchefuncte River Lighthouse. History’s also on display at the Otis Hous Museum at nearby Fairview-Riverside State Park. The park offers trails, camping, and fishing. You can reserve a pontoon boat tour that departs from the State Park boat launch. Thousands turn out each fall for the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival which draws vintage hand-built watercraft from across the Gulf South. But any time is a good time to enjoy a great meal from one of the restaurants overlooking the Tchefuncte’s banks.
